Home Based Business On A Shoestring-Or Even A Thread!

Because often all you need to have a home based business are your special skills and talents. For instance, do you know your way around a computer? Then your home based business could be to offer computer tutoring, because believe it or not, many people still think reboot means to put your boots on again and that a search is something you do when you’ve lost something. You can post flyers or posters at the local library and branches to advertise your computer tutoring service. Daycares and schools are also good places to get the news out about your home based business computer tutor service because many parents want their children to learn how to use a computer correctly.Another home based business that’s cost little to nothing to start is a garage and attic cleaning company. The great thing about this is that not only do you get paid for doing something most people hate (which ensures you’ll have lots of customers!), but often you can also pick up treasures that you can resell at garage sales or online auctions. And as people today get busier and busier, the demand for this service is increasing faster than you can say trash–and people willing to pay big bucks for the service. This is a great home based business to have if you get a lot of satisfaction from getting things in order and like physical labor.Personal errand or personal concierge services are becoming the hottest home based businesses going these days. People just don’t have time to go to the cleaners and do their own grocery shopping. They’ll gladly pay someone, and pay them well, to do these chores and others like them so they’re not as stressed. Some of your best customers will be parents whose children are involved in a lot of extracurricular activities because they’re some of the most time-strapped people of all. Put up some posters at little league fields, dance schools, daycares, schools and similar places to advertise your home based business. If you want a home based business where you will be able to stay at home rather than be out and about, consider becoming a freelance writer or proofreader. The demand for this type of home based business service has increased dramatically in the last two years as more and more businesses are outsourcing this sort of work. There are also websites like Elance and Guru where businesses post writing and editing jobs that you can bid on. You will have to pay a subscription fee in order to bid, but there are several levels and payment options available. You can also approach businesses and publishing companies directly and provide them with a portfolio or samples of your work. This can be a fun home based business to have and also one that has a great deal of growth potential if you’re especially talented with words or have eagle eyes when it comes to typos. And if you’re a person who loves planning events, then a home based business as an event or wedding planner just might be perfect for you. Home based businesses of this type are another popular trend right now, and you can earn you a much larger income than you might expect. You’ll do better in a home based business like this if you specialize in planning one type of event and become an expert at it rather than spread yourself too thin, trying to be all things to all people. Wedding planners, for example, can stay extremely busy and earn good money planning only weddings–as much as $3000 per wedding in many cases. There are books that will teach you all you need to know, and there’s also software available to guide you and to keep track of the details. There are many other types of home based businesses that are simple and inexpensive to start. The main thing to do when selecting the home based business you want is to focus on your skills and what you like to do. Passion plays an important part in making a stay a home job or business successful. To keep your costs down, think of the tools and equipment, like a computer or truck, that you already own–then put it to work for your own home based business!Charles Fuchshttp://www.charlesfuchs.comhttp://charlesfuchs.blogspot.comI grant permission to publish this article, electronically or in print, as long as the bylines are included, with a live link, and the article is not changed in any way.

Starting an At-Home Big Money Business

Starting at home has many advantages. When you start a business, like any venture in life, you want it to have the best chance for success. Starting one from your home has unique advantages. You won’t be paying rent on a store or office. And probably you won’t immediately need a separate phone with the charges for installation and monthly service. And you are already heating and lighting your home. Therefore, you avoid the burden of these additional monthly overhead costs. You’ll be using many things you already own so you can save money by not buying a desk, lighting fixtures, a water cooler, or the other furnishings people generally buy to set up a separate business location. If you need help with the actual work that’s involved, try to get members of your family to help you (more on this later). And you can start your business part-time while keeping your present job. Later as it grows you can make it your full-time occupation, and if you wish, move it out of your home into larger quarters…better suited to a business which may be growing by leaps and bounds.Presiding over your own domainA man’s home is his castle–and it can also be his “gold mine.” There are many people who make a very good living right from their home. It’s comfortable, it’s conveniently located (you can walk to work in about 15 seconds) and you can dress the way you like. You can arrange the furniture to make a work space that suits your exact needs and tastes. You can choose the hours you wish to work and, if you have the energy, initiative and ambition, you can even be in more than one kind of business!Working in your home has other advantages; you have no transportation expenses and you don’t waste time or energy in crowds or rush hour traffic. You don’t have to worry about getting along with a large group of co-workers or finding a decent place to eat lunch. And you don’t have to go out in all weathers, sleet and snow or broiling sun.But there are some drawbacks to working at home and the largest of these is self-discipline. You must learn to discipline yourself. Everyone who is his own boss has the problem of utilizing his time and energy most effectively and not wasting time on pet projects that are not essential to the business. Self discipline is easier to attain if one goes each day to a separate place of business because most business premises do not have the comforts, conveniences and distractions that one has in one’s own home. The danger in working at home is that the advantage of comfort and convenience can turn into a great disadvantage.Set up a definite work areaLater on we’ll tell you some tips on how to conduct business in general. But let’s first find a part of your house that you can use as your business or work area. It should be a spot that is comfortable but away from distractions. Your children deserve attention but not during your working hours (more on that later) So set yourself up far from where the kids usually play. Too close to the kitchen isn’t wise because you are too close to the “food or drink” temptation. A quiet spare bedroom can be ideal as can a finished basement or garage if they aren’t too hot or cold. You may need an extension phone put there and, indeed, after your business gets rolling you may want a separate line just for business. If you have a spare desk or table that’s fine, but a card table can do for a starter. Adequate lighting is necessary and a filing cabinet also is a good thing to have on hand. You can add whatever other business devices and equipment you discover you’ll need as time goes by.You and your FamilyIt will be necessary to explain to your children that even though you are at home, you are, in a sense “not at home,” that you are working. This does not apply to an emergency, of course, but for nearly all ordinary moments it means they are not allowed to disturb you. You may even have to lock the door that leads to your work area.On the other side, there is the situation regarding other adults in the household, from whom you might want some help from in running the business. This has been called the “honey-do” problem: honey, do this; honey, do that. It’s best to come to some understanding with your spouse (and any other adult in your home) about just how you are going to handle this problem. It’s quite sensible to desire the help of those other capable adults because they can take some of the burdens of the business off your shoulders. However, from both a business viewpoint and from the human relations viewpoint, it’s best to have a clear understanding with each of them as to what kind of things they will and should do (answer the phone, open mail, pack and ship merchandise, etc.) and what they definitely are not to do make payments to people without your authorization, make agreements, deals or contracts without asking you). Such advance agreements can avoid a lot of aggravation and make everything go much more smoothly.”Hello, this is Daddy’s business”You must realize that there will be some (charming) complications to running a business from home and one of those complications is when a fairly small child answers the phone for a business call. “No, this isn’t the Smith Company, this is my house” may throw a business associate calling your “office” for a loop, temporarily. Most people react quite graciously to this, but it does point up the advantage of having a business number that rings only in your work area.Getting temporary helpThere may be more work at times than you and your family can do yourselves. Your volume of business may be greater on certain days of the week, certain times of the month, certain seasons of the year. At those times you may need extra help to handle the work. Or you might need a bookkeeper or secretary or clerk one week a month to help you keep up-to- date on your record-keeping and paperwork. When you need such help, the most convenient way to get it is to hire someone through an agency that provides temporary workers. Manpower and Kelly Girl, for example, are two of the best known agencies in this field. Hiring though such an agency has these advantages: they will send a person who has the skills you require which means you won’t waste time training the person. The worker they send understands that the job is temporary and won’t make you uncomfortable by asking to be kept on permanently. And, because the worker is employed by the agency (not by you) the agency takes care of the worker’s payroll records, tax deductions, insurance coverage, fringe benefits, and so on. You are free from those responsibilities. The right business for youWhen selecting a home business you should consider these factors:* Is the service or product you intend to provide already easily available in your area? If it is not available and if there appears to be a need for it, these factors are in your favor.Consider all the things you own that might be used in some way as equipment for your business: a car or truck, a typewriter, a mimeograph machine, and so on. I you can use them, it will greatly lower your starting costs.* Is it a business that suits your personality and tastes? One that you feel good about, that fires your imagination? It should be. Enthusiasm can be a priceless ingredient in the formula for success! Home businesses that workYou must, of course, choose the home business that is right for you. There are many books that will give you long lists of potentially money-making businesses for you to consider. A relatively short, but highly recommended, list of potential business ventures will be found in another of this series of reports entitled 37 Instant Moneymaking Part-time Businesses.Handwriting analysis by mail. You will find lots of books on the subject at your local public library.Once you’ve started studying, you can start placing some small- space ads, in local papers, and in literary-type magazines, psychology magazines, and wherever else you think you can find the people interested in having their handwriting analyzed. Then you just sit back an wait for the letters (and checks, money orders and plain old cash ) to roll in. Be sure to keep a record of how much you get from which ad (by using a key, such as changing your middle initial in each ad), so you know which pull best. After you get more confidence in making rapid analyses, you can even give personal consultations in your home if you want to do this.Guaranteed lucky four-leaf clovers. It used to be that people thought they would be lucky if they found a four-leaf clover when they were walking in the fields. Now some smart farmer, who must also be a good businessman as well as a skilled plant biologist, has figured out a way to get exclusively mutants, so he can supply unlimited four-leaf clovers. You can cash in on this handsomely by buying a quantity of them and embedding them in clear plastic (casting resins and instructions can be obtained at any hobby shop), in the form of key rings, brooches and paperweights (or anything else you can create.)The real gimmick comes in the merchandising of them, because you should advertise them as guaranteed lucky genuine four-leaf clovers, with the slogan “If you don’t get lucky in the next year with this genuine four-leaf clover, we’ll give you your money back”. Within a year most people have at least one good thing happen to them, so you will probably get very few requests for money back. Instead, you are likely to have lots of satisfied customers who feel that now they have finally gotten lucky, proving that the four-leaf clover worked! With this approach, and an attractive small-space ad, you ought to do well with four-leaf offers more good ideas for business promotion. How One Product Made Me Into a Millionaire: The 4th Thing I Learned

When I was working at a gas station in Chandler, Arizona, fixing windshields for a living, making only $30,000 a year, I had all the drive in the world to succeed. You see, I was in a franchise. I thought that since I had entered into a business of my own and if I worked it hard enough, I would have success. Man, I was dead wrong. What I learned is that I could have all the drive and determination in the world, but unless I was behind a timeless, constant and steady product, it would be impossible to succeed. What I am talking about, is an Evergreen product. When I was introduced to the business I am currently in, I quickly learned the power of an evergreen product. An evergreen product is something that is going to be around for a longtime. Everyone has to be able to use it. It must be a product in high demand consistently.Health and Beauty sectors produce evergreen products. But, take cosmetics for example…that’s only 50% of the market you’re selling to. I was fixing auto glass at a gas station… This service covered more of the market, as both men and woman drive cars. But, I was still very limited. First off…I only had the influx of cars coming into that one particular station. And, second…some customers, even if they did have chips in their windshield, didn’t want my service because they already used another auto servicing center for all their auto needs. After I got out of the auto glass business and got started with the opportunity I am in now, everything clicked. I saw how two huge markets had come together, creating a winning combination. Hot markets, such as Personal Development and the Internet are not only steady and constant, but will continue to grow consistently for many years to come. As far as both markets are concerned…I believe we’re only at the very beginning.I made $19,000 my first month introducing Evergreen Products to the market. Last week, I made $73,000 selling the same products. One thing I found out on my rocky road of researching business opportunities, is to avoid fads. Fads come in fast and go out even faster. They’re unreliable. Take all the diet crazes that bombard us with the newest sure-thing to a slender physique… Imagine what a rollercoaster that would be–sales going up and then falling straight down. Then, you’re done. Your customers are on to the next best thing.More importantly, I can’t possibly stand behind something that I don’t fully believe in. It has to be a product that produces results, something that truly works, and something that I feel great introducing my clients to. It’s about integrity. Products with integrity stand the test of time.I hope I have made it extremely simple for you to distinguish between an Evergreen product and something that will let you down. An Evergreen Product must be in place in your business to achieve success. To learn more about the Evergreen products I support and about how I teach people to make five and six-figures a month, visit my website:

Elements of Successful Trading

Trading the stock or commodities markets provides an opportunity for ordinary people to accumulate extraordinary wealth.Trading is not difficult to learn and many consider this to be the ultimate home business.Trading is a business that allows you to take control of your financial well being. However, if you are going to be a trader of stocks or commodities the following elements are essential to your success.Mastering these elements will not ensure your success, because there are other factors that influence markets that cannot be covered in this article, but if you don’t master these elements you will ensure failure.1) Money ManagementMoney management is taking the necessary steps to protect your capital, at all times. It means knowing when to get out of a trade that is not going your way.It means only trading an amount you can afford. It means you do not fall in love with a trade so you are stuck with it no matter it does.It also means knowing when to leave a market with a profit.Money management allows you to stay in the markets so you can profit handsomely from proper trading techniques.(Money management is so absolutely vital to successful trading, and investing it cannot be expressed enough.)2) The trend is your friendThe “trend is your friend” is an old trading expression that’s been around for generations, and is as true today as in past years. The laws of physics states that a body in motion stays in motion, in the same direction. This also holds true for market trends.Market trends keep moving in the same direction until they stop and reverse themselves. So, if the trend is up, you want to be “long” the markets to profit from the trend.3) Do not argue with the marketMany traders and investors have trouble accepting the fact that the market will always do what it wants to do.If you are “long” the market you want it to go up, but, if the market decides it wants to go down…guess what will happen? That’s right, the market will go down. This seems so obvious but many lose sight of this simple fact, and end up losing money. Then, they blame the market for their losses.

Stay At Home Jobs – An Idea Whose Time Has Come

Stay at home jobs of all kinds have become the hottest employment trends of the 21st century. Outsourcing work to stay at home workers has become especially attractive to employers who are looking for an effective way to cut business costs and still provide quality products and services. So if a home based business is what you want, the first place you should look is at your current employer. Is the work you’re doing now something that you could work from home and do, then send to the office by email or upload to the company server or FTP site? Often, with just a few adjustments by both you and your employer, you’ll find that it is. And if you have a good work record with your employer and a few of years of service there already, your employer is quite likely to be willing to let you stay at home and work, at least part of the time. You still might have to go into the office for meetings and planning sessions, but you could stay at home and do most of your work. So before you turn in your notice to work from home, talk it over with your present employer and see what you can work out.Too, before leaving your current job, it’s a good idea to start part-time stay at home first. There are many reasons for trying out a stay at home job part-time, but the main one is so that you’ll have a true idea of what your earning potential will be at a particular stay at home job. Many times stay at home job recruiters or advertisements for stay at home work “oversell” the income potential of their stay at home job opportunities.Sometimes this stay at home job “oversell” is intentional because the whole deal is a scam to begin with, but other times, it’s just that the company uses the earnings of their employees or salespeople to show you the income potential you have performing their particular stay at home job or by taking advantage of their stay at home business opportunity. Either way, you want to beware of any company that tells you that can make hundreds and hundreds, even thousands of dollars a week at their home business. It may be true that you can make oodles of money at that particular stay at home job, but it will probably take quite a while to build up to even a reasonable income. Starting a stay at home job part-time will let you to do this while you still have a steady paycheck coming in, which means you’ll feel less stress and pressure. When choosing the best job or home based business opportunity for you, you should always take into consideration what you love to do and what your skills and capabilities are. Virtual assistants, transcription, data entry and accounting are great areas for work at home and are good places to put those administrative assistant skills and office skills you have to work for you at home. All you really need for these types of jobs is a computer with Internet access and email, which more than likely you already have since you’re reading this.Email processing, survey taking and ad placement are a just few of the many other online job areas that you might want to look into. Of course, be sure to research the company you want first. Find out as much about them as possible, including their payment history, before taking a this kind of job with any online company. And never pay anyone to give you an opportunity like this. It’s one thing to pay a recruiter to help you find a stay at home job, it’s quite another to pay someone to hire you. Requiring you to pay to start a work at home job is the number one way to spot an online stay at home work scam. Don’t waste your time–or more importantly, your money.

Start a Small Retail Business with Multiple Sales Channels

Starting a small business with several sales channels maximizes your chance of successIn those tender first few years after you start your small business every sale is significant. It’s unfortunate that many entrepreneurs attribute a small start up budget with a single outlet for sales. In the past this may have been true. Few entrepreneurs had enough capital to open even a single store. Two or three stores in different neighborhoods was well beyond most budding entrepreneurs. Today, there is no end to the different sales avenues available to imaginative start up retailers, despite limited budgets.Channel One: Start a small retail business with a mall kioskDon’t let the high cost of starting a bricks and mortar store keep you from making sales to live customers. An attractive kiosk can be purchased for less than a decent used car. Utility and Maintenance costs are also inexpensive. Mobility is an added bonus. If one location fizzles out you can always pick up and move.Internet options may be less expensive to start up but they also take much longer to be noticed. Depending on your experience, they also take a lot longer to build. A well placed kiosk can be fully operational and generating income the moment you wheel it in the door.Channel Two: Start a small retail business with an ecommerce siteOnce you have your kiosk in place, you’re going to find yourself with a lot of free time between customers. You could spend this time talking to your neighbors or reading the newspaper. You could also boost your future sales potential by starting an online store.Ecommerce sites can be created quickly but they do take time to fine tune. Once you’ve worked out all the bugs it may still be a while before many customers start to notice your small retail business. There’s no reason you can’t handle an ecommerce site from a notebook at your kiosk. If you merely started an ecommerce site, you would have to wait months until your site was noticed or pay for expensive advertisements. Instead of sitting in your basement, frantically checking your server log, you could be positioned at your kiosk with an opportunity to speak face to face about your products, and hopefully sell some of them. Not only can you continue making money while you start your ecommerce site but you also get a chance to promote it at practically no extra cost. Stamp your small business website address on your kiosk, shopping bags and reciepts. Be sure to mention the site to everyone that stops by your kiosk. Even offer a chance to browse, or beta test, your ecommerce site from your notebook.Channel Three: Start a small retail business selling products on E-bayE-bay and Pay-Pal take a hefty chunk out of your profit margin but E-bay still has some redeeming qualities. Almost any product you put onto their website will be noticed. In addition, once you’ve completed several transactions successfully your seller profile will indicate that you can be trusted. It takes a long time to build up trust for your ecommerce site. Like your kiosk, you can advertise your ecommerce site at no charge.Unlike your kiosk and online store, your products can be sold on eBay with practically no startup cost. Also, there are a lot of savvy internet shopers that make online transactions exclusively through auctions. By opening up this third channel your potential customer base skyrockets!

What type of office setup do you need? Most entrepreneurs have their offices at home. Do you evenhave space for an office at home? The purpose of the following two articles is not to give you a blow-by-blow plan of how to set up your home office but more to give you tips and advice that’ll save you time, heartbreak and money.Your DeskNewspaper ads years ago were filled with adverts stating “start a business from your kitchen table”. While in theory (and in bad advertising) this is fine operating your business from a kitchen tables is entirely unpractical.A good home office desk is functional, sturdy and has a clear, flat worktop. You’ve seen those office desks that are filled with drawers, shelves, keyboard trays and tons of other nooks and crannies. Firstly this type of desk looks fine in a catalogue but is far smaller when you actually build it.Secondly all those drawers and shelves only give you more places to lose stuff. Keep your desk simple. The ideal home office desk has a large, flat working area with at least one deep drawer for storing files and another shallow drawer for storing pens, paper and other consumables.Ideally the desk should also be L shaped. This allows you to place your work around you as opposed to constantly having to stretch and reach for different items. The L shaped desk will provide you with a more practical working environment as well as saving you backpain problems later in life.Your ChairThis is where you’re going to be spending a considerable amount of time. Never, ever skimp on your home office chair. It is absolutely essential that you have a good office chair. Many new home business owners make the critical mistake of using a kitchen, spare household or even a garden chair for their home office. This boggles the mind considering the same person probably wouldn’t think twice about paying $1,000 for a new computer but won’t pay $100 for a quality office chair.Using a cheap chair that doesn’t provide proper back and lower limb support can and will lead to lower back and shoulder pain. It can also provoke migraines and other headaches. Poor posture should never be underestimated – it can have far reaching effects.Features you should look for in an office chair:* Adjustable backrest* Swivel base* Adjustable armrest* Adequte lumbar support* Deep cushioned seatA great home office chair can be purchased for as little as $60 brand new. If you’re finding yourself strapped for cash then check local auction houses for office clearance items.Other source of “cheap” office chairs are IT firms and call centers. They’re constantly having to replace their furniture to meet legal ergonomic requirements. That $200 office chair can often be purchased slightly used for about $20.Your Ergonomic EnvironmentThe 3 key environmental factors in a suitable home working environment are noise, light and heat.NoiseExcessive noise is not only distracting but also debilitating. Prolonged exposure to excessive noise can and will affect your hearing. What counts as excessive noise? Most experts agree that anything over 45 decibels or the equivalent of a really loud office fan is counterproductive to your work. You’ll have trouble focusing or thinking clearly for more than a few moments.Your home office needs to be a relatively peaceful environment. You’ll do your best thinking, be at your most creative and work most effectively in a quieter office space.Avoid using laundry rooms, TV rooms or other areas with excessively noisy equipment of any kind.LightYou need to be in control of the light in or coming into your office. Light sources that are too bright will cause glare on computer screens and documents.A home office that is too dimly lit will lead to eyestrain and headaches over time. If the area is too dark you’ll lean closer to the computer screen and documents to read them thus causing discomfort.Natural light is ideal because it provides diffuse (soft) light. An added bonus is that natural sunlight has a beneficial effect on our physiologies – our bodies produce more “feel good” chemicals when we absorb natural light.Obviously don’t put your working area in direct sunlight as it will be far too uncomfortable to work in. Simply arrange your office in such a way as to maximize the benefit of the natural light in your immediate surroundings. If you’re a nightowl then simply point your desklamp away from the desk towards a wall behind you. Why? This provides the same type of diffuse light that you’d experience during the day. Adjust the lamp until it provides enough light to read your screen or documents comfortably by.HeatThis is the easy bit. Your home office should be neither too hot nor too cold. Is that stating the obvious? Any extremes of temperature in your home office will lead to decreased work performance. Normal room temperature is 37 degrees celsius (98 degrees Fahrenheit) so you need to aim for something in that region. If your home office is too cold you won’t be able to focus. You’ll spend more time being annoyed at being cold than getting any work done.Too much heat and you’ll find yourself becoming irritable, lethargic and distinctly uncomfortable.Your body is no different to the engine of a car or a piece of electronics. We all have optimal working temperatures. Otherwise we break down.continued in Part Two
